Caviar Consulting / Services
Seven years on the platform, from inside Workiva and from the consulting side, across SEC reporting, sustainability, and custom reporting solutions.
This specialization did not start on the consulting side. It started at Workiva, delivering SEC reporting and XBRL tagging for public filers, which is a different vantage point from learning the platform at a client. It continued through years of designing and delivering solutions for large organizations, including custom builds for sustainability and regulatory reporting.
The practical difference is knowing what the platform does well, what it does badly, and which requests are better solved outside it. Nobody is served by a consultant whose only tool is the one they sell.
New implementations across the areas the platform is genuinely strong in:
An implementation done properly starts before the platform. Defining the data sources, the ownership, and the review workflow first means the configuration reflects a process that works. Configuring first and hoping the process follows is the most common reason implementations underdeliver.
A large share of this work is not new builds. It is environments that have grown sideways over several years: linking that broke and got patched with manual updates, documents rebuilt each period instead of rolled forward, spreadsheets doing work the platform was bought to do, and a team that uses a fraction of what they pay for.
Optimization engagements typically cover:
Caviar Consulting is an independent practice. There is no reseller relationship and no incentive to recommend a platform where one is not warranted. Where the answer is a better process rather than more software, that is the recommendation.
The platform's chart, table, and connection layer can be built into things that look nothing like a filing. Work here has included carbon accounting calculation engines, multi-jurisdiction EPR reporting, and EU Taxonomy assessment and KPI production. These share a shape: one governed dataset feeding many differently-structured outputs, with a review trail throughout.
For teams still choosing, selection support means defining the requirements honestly, evaluating options against them, and being clear about where a given platform is a strong fit and where it is oversized for the problem. Some reporting problems are process problems wearing a software costume, and buying a platform to solve them produces an expensive version of the same difficulty.
Every engagement ends with the in-house team owning the environment: documentation of how it is built, training on the parts they will maintain, and support through the first reporting cycles. A build that only the consultant understands is a liability, not a deliverable.
Describe what is built today, what is still manual, and what the reporting calendar looks like.
